Man Purchased A Stolen Bike From Burglars To Give It Back To The Original Owners

If you ever think that you have lost all your faith in humanity, then you should start looking at the more inspirational side of the internet. Yes, we are battered with the tragic news of deaths, wars, and climate change. We all feel so very helpless against all these calamities that we face or hear about every day. However, there is some positive news too. And this positive news brings a smile on our face in the times of such darkness. Ste Burke is such a kind man. He purchased an expensive stolen bike at a premium cost just so that he could return it to the owner. He knew the price of the stolen bike couldn’t be measured in monetary terms.

The 26-year-old Ste Burke paid about 104 dollars for the bike. He knew it would be costing around 1760 dollars if he had gone to the original vendors. But 3 men just approached him on the street and persuaded him to buy the bike at that low price. It was clear that these men have stolen the bike. Plus, he saw that the bike lock was present on the back wheel. It was a clear sign that this was a stolen bike.

Ste Burke says: “I had just come home from the gym and I was getting my gym bag out of the back of my car to go inside my home when I was approached by 3 men carrying the bike.”

Noticing the red flags like the cheap price and the bike lock, Ste Burke knew that there was no other way than purchasing the bike and getting it out of the hands of the thieves. Once he got his hands on the stolen bike, he quickly clicked a picture of it and put it up on Twitter.

Has anyone had their bike stolen? Just bought this for £80 and it’s got a bike lock on it. Apparently it’s from the Crosby area. Bought it so I can get it to back to the right owner. I know it’s a £1350 bike and id be heartbroken if it was me. Give us a shout ???? pic.twitter.com/uwb3iFwpx7

Twitter was quite concerned about the bike and quickly made the post go viral. A little later, a woman messaged Ste. She claimed that she knew the person whose bike was stolen. She would tell the real owner of the stolen bike to contact Ste.

Finally, the real owner of the stolen bike came in contact with Ste. He had all the paperwork and the key to the bike lock which clarified that he, indeed, was the owner of the bike.

He mentioned that he was going through some hard times and that his house was burgled recently. The burglars seem to have taken the bike.

He wanted to pay Ste back but Ste refused. He mentioned: ‘He told me he got paid on Friday and could he send me the money then and I said no. I told him I didn’t feel right taking money off a man who has just had his house burgled.’

Halfords, the company of the stolen bike, is quite fascinated by the story of this young kind man. They contacted him and wanted to give a free bike to Ste. But Ste rejected that offer too. While he did thank Halfords, he mentioned:  ‘Halfords have been very kind reaching out to me, I didn’t do it for free stuff I just done it because I knew someone’s paid a lot for it.’

He is definitely a true hero and a bringer of smiles in these dark times.
