What's Stopping You From Your Healthy Routine Is You

A healthy routine has most likely been everyone’s resolution at some point in their lives. And yet growing health issues such as obesity would prove that most of the people have likely not been able to keep their fitness resolutions.

And if you do not know yet what is the thing that fails you every time, perhaps this article would help you stay on track the next time you go for it.

Inconsistency

It is a human tendency to fall back on habits and resist change. Hence it is important to keep giving yourself incentives to work towards making yourself go for routines that change you positively and make it consistent.

Unbalanced Rewards

You need to reward yourself for sticking to your routine. That pat in the back could go a long way. And try not to make your rewards work against you. Instead of giving in to the ice cream craving, try the exotic fruit you wanted to eat. Or maybe something comfortable to wear.

Habits

You need to stop making bad decisions. Eating pizza because you are too busy and tired to cook would not make you healthy in the long run. Make your decisions in complete awareness instead of falling back on automatic habits.

Goals

Set a goal, an achievable goal, to motivate you. Do not make a goal you would not be able to keep up with. Rather, set an achievable goal. Let yourself see the results. That would push you towards more of them.

Timing

Yes, your routine takes time. It would take a good chunk of your time to keep yourself healthy. And if you think it is not worth it, and then say it aloud to yourself- good health is not worth the time. Did you hear what you just said and how it sounded? Exactly. So, stay dedicated to your routine.

Talking About Your Goals

Research shows that talking about your goals gives a sense of achievement before you have actually achieved anything. This might slow you down or reduce your motivation to achieve your goals.

Being Self-Critical

It is important to give yourself a quality check from time to time. But it is not fine to wear yourself down all the time. There would always be other people who would criticize you. You do need to do that all the time. And try to avoid such critical people.

Being Over-Ambitious

Being ambitious about what you wish to achieve is good. But taking it to the next level and pushing your body beyond what it is prepared to take is a far cry from pushing your limits. No matter how flexible you are, you have a breaking point and unless you are capable of judging it, it is better not to get into it.

Denying Yourself Happiness

You won’t be able to have a routine if it weren’t for the results. Always bargain with yourself about getting the best out of the situation. If you do not like your routine, you will not be able to enjoy it. If you don’t enjoy it, you will quit it. And that’s not what we want here.

Take your time. Don’t run into it. Take baby steps and walk when you are comfortable. You are meant to follow no one’s standards but yours.
