As Joan MacDonald was continuing with her rather unhealthy lifestyle, her doctor told her she would have to take up even more medication to lead a normal life. That’s when she made a difficult choice. She decided to make a stand for herself and break out of her usual unhealthy lifestyle and exercise.
What started as a fitness challenge ended up featuring in many health magazine covers. Joan MacDonald lost over 50 because of her daughter who helped her with the workout and you can not only see the change in her health but feel it.
Joan MacDonald recollected in one of her posts how difficult it was for her in the beginning, “I never let people take photos of me because I couldn’t accept where I was and yet, I also couldn’t seem to change. It was a very tough place to be, and I stayed in that place for a very long time.”
Her deteriorating health and her discomfort in her own skin made up her mind. “You can’t turn back the clock but you can wind it up again!” she said and got herself started.“I knew I had to do something different. I had watched my mom go through the same thing, taking medication after medication, and I didn’t want that life for myself.”
This is where Joan MacDonald’s daughter, Michelle, a professional chef came into the picture. She was also a yoga practitioner and a competitive power-lifter. She joined her daughter’s online workout program and paid particular attention to endurance and strength training.
Soon, her resolve got strengthened as she started seeing results. So, she got herself an iphone and added fitness apps to her inventory. She was practicing yoga, lifting weights added even walking to her routine.
“I made up my mind that I could do it and I refused to quit no matter how daunting it was to head to the gym with arthritis and acid reflux and vertigo,” she posted, “I just focused on taking it one day at a time … did my best, allowed myself to make mistakes, and never gave up.”
Joan MacDonald has now lost over 62 pounds and no longer takes any medication. “I am praying for the courage and grit to keep on going, to keep dreaming, and keep acting out my dreams for a better quality of living”
Joan’s dreams have come true. Not only has she achieved the level of fitness that she desired she has become a viral sensation and an inspiration for many.
