This Teacher Managed To Capture Dancing Baby Bears In The Wilderness Of Finnish Taiga

When this teacher from Sotkamo, Finland was on one of his little trips he managed to capture in his lenses something rare and unique. Taking up photography as a hobby, Valtteri Mulkahainen has been capturing the wildlife of the country for the last 6 years. Among the many beautiful moments he has captured, these dancing baby bears truly stand out.

Mulkahainen was near the town of Martinselkonen in June of 2013. He was exploring the woods hoping to capture another magical moment. That is when he noticed a bear family. It appeared to be one mamma bear with her 3 cubs.

In an interview with Bored Panda, Mulkahainen said, “The cubs behaved like little children… They were playing, and even started a few friendly fights. I felt like I was on a playground in front of my house, where small children frolic around. That’s how much they reminded me of little children. At one point, the three of them got up on their hind legs and started pushing each other. It was like they were dancing in a circle.”

Our lucky photographer was safe in a shelter 50 meters away and had the best vantage point to capture the dancing baby bears. He said, “I photographed the cubs with the bear all evening and all night.”

Although the dancing part was rather unique, bears are quite common in the country. With the exclusion of the Åland Islands, bears are found almost everywhere in Finland. Lapland and the eastern parts of Finland are favorites among the teddies.

These much-feared beasts can be quite playful and gentle too as these photographs prove. Bears are known to be strong and agile and can use their forelegs quite well. Swimming and climbing abilities only add to their strengths, making them quite adaptable to their surroundings.

Bears tend to avoid human contact but that is where Mulkahainen’s success lies. Bears would quickly and stealthily retreat if they sense humans around. But lucky for us, Mulkahainen managed to get these rare images of the dancing baby bears!
