Boy Hugs Deliveryman Without Knowing His Struggle

All of us are dealing with our own problems. It costs us nothing to be kind but how many of us practice empathy on a daily basis? Well, we have something to learn from this two-year-old boy and his small act of love. Lindsey Sheely ordered a pizza at her home in Rhode Island. When she received the pizza, Cohen, her boy ran out on the porch to hug the deliveryman and give him a kiss. The little boy wanted to thank the delivery man, Ryan Patterson, for the dinner.

Lindsey found the gesture incredibly cute and shared it on social media. Soon she got to know that Catterson lost Alyssa, his sixteen-year-old daughter, the previous week. His daughter used to struggle with her mental health and passed away all of a sudden. Catterson did not get to meet his family as they were struggling to raise funds for his journey to California. In such a period of extreme grief, Cohen’s hug felt like a god-sent gift to the deliveryman.

Lindsey later took to Instagram to share a snippet of the interaction, caught by the camera on the doorbell. She did so without much thought, believing it will brighten up somebody’s day by making them smile. Little did she know that the short video of the boy hugging the deliveryman would spark a chain reaction. It found its way to Catterson’s timeline who then expressed his feelings regarding the hug. He could feel the unconditional love that reminded him of his beloved daughter.

The story went viral on social media. Catterson had opened a GoFundMe page to arrange money for his daughter’s funeral and the travel tickets and he met his target. In fact, he raised more than $28,000 in donations.

The timing of the turn of events was so perfect that it can easily be called a miracle. Little Cohen could feel the deliveryman’s pain and his mother too shared the pure moment without hesitation. In our lives, we ignore even what is in front of us and soak in the negative emotions. Such small acts of kindness go a long way and can completely change someone’s life. It is lovely how complete strangers saw the video and were empathetic towards the situation. They all decided to do their bit to ease the deliveryman’s pain. Humanity is a beautiful thing, isn’t it?
