Blind Dog Comforts Every Pet In A Foster Home That His Owner Runs

Dogs. Where do we begin? They are kind, they are gentle, they are beautiful, and they are amazing floofballs. Sheryl Smith, who runs a foster for animals, thinks so too. After all, she is the proud owner of Shiro, a blind dog who comforts the animals that she brings into her house. Sheryl Smith’s dedication towards animals is what brought Shiro into her life in the first place. What can we say; dogs have their own way of embracing everyone in their lives through love, devotion, and care.

This blind dog has had a very sad history. Smith got him after a couple of years of Shiro moving between foster homes and adoption centers. This extremely adorable dog had already done the rounds of a couple of shelters, and around 12 foster homes- an unfortunate occurrence in the life of one, who simply wanted to love and be loved.

“He was a handful but everyone else had given up on him and we weren’t prepared to do that too,” Smith told The Dodo. Guess Smith realized what the blind dog really needed. But in hindsight, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that all the dog needed was love.

It would be quite inhumane to think that all these rejections didn’t have any effect on Shiro. Smith mentions how he still weeps when he sits in the car- he thinks that he is about to be given away yet again. He may be partially blind, but he is an empath- he feels strongly.

Maybe it is this trait in this blind dog that makes him such a good caregiver. The one time Smith brought in a pregnant dog that was unable to take care of her puppies, Shiro quickly took up the responsibility, without being asked to. His own suffering has led him to understand the suffering other animals face. And this, in a way leads the other animals to trust him irrespective of their ferocity. It is no surprise that the most violent of cats become docile before him. The entire vibe this blind dog gives is of friendship, care, and love. He never asks for anything- he simply provides.

In this world where kindness and generosity are hard-fought traits, here is an animal that is willing to provide it to all and sundry.  Every single animal in the foster home has benefited from Shiro, be it Tiny Tolley, or some other animal that Smith brought in.

Let’s just end with this note- dogs understand love, devotion, pain, and suffering more than humans ever can. And this blind dog is a prime example of it.
